Sedation Dentistry

Dental phobia actually affects many people. We are able to use varying forms of sedation dentistry to make your next dental visit pleasant and comfortable.

TREATING DENTAL ANXIETY

We recognize the importance of acknowledging and treating dental anxiety. There are some very real consequences that can occur when this problem is not addressed. You may miss dental appointments and neglect your oral health. In time, you may find that your mouth and teeth are in serious danger.

At District Dental Wellness, we have created an atmosphere that is enjoyable and fun. Your well-being and health are our top priority. We use the latest dental technology to ensure that our equipment and procedures are safe, comfortable, and effective.

If your dental anxiety is not soothed by the atmosphere of our office, we can provide sedation methods to make your visit more comfortable. In order to provide you with options to alleviate your dental fear, we can administer several different types of sedation.

LAUGHING GAS SEDATION

If you’ve been to the dentist, you’ve probably experienced laughing gas sedation. This is a very common, mild form of sedation that can help alleviate nervousness and anxiety in most patients. The laughing gas is administered through a small mask that fits over your nose. As you breathe in the gas, you’ll notice feelings of well-being, calm and contentment.

You’ll remain awake and aware throughout your appointment. You’ll still be able to talk to the dentist, express any concerns or questions, and understand answers and instructions. Once your procedure is complete, we’ll remove the mask, and the effects of the laughing gas will wear off within a few minutes.

ORAL CONSCIOUS SEDATION

For those patients who have more intense anxiety or who are undergoing a more complicated procedure, we offer oral conscious sedation. Oral conscious sedation provides you with deeper relaxation.

It is administered in the form of a small pill, which you will take an hour or so before your procedure. We will provide you with detailed instructions for taking the medication, and you will need to find someone who can drive you to and from your appointment.

As implied by the name of this type of sedation, you will remain conscious while under its influence, but you will likely be so deeply comfortable that you will not remember much about your procedure. This can make each visit easier and more pleasant for you.
